O relatório resulta do "Child Soldiers Research Project of the Sub-Group on Refugee Children" e o "Children in Armed Conflict of the Group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child". Uma grande parte dos 24 estudos de casos foi elaborada por ONGs locais. A "Rädda Barnen" foi um dos principais financiadores do estudo sobre o impacto dos conflitos armados nas crianças, estando prevista, para finais de 1996, a publicação de um estudo mais detalhado.
