Title: "Roots of western culture - The ancient roman art".

Purposes:

1-To verify if Internet can promote the student's motivation in curriculum-based item of a course of art history;

2 - To gather data and some kind of assistance from students, teachers and specialists on the subject, fronm schools in different countries;

3 - To provide students with an opportunity to investigate the sources of western culture.

Subjects:Art history, History, Geography.

Number of participants:

Our class of 10th G, "Julio Dantas Secondary School", in Lagos, Portugal, and first ten classes to register their participation.

Grade level of our students: 10th ( it means age about 15-16 ).

Summary:

The ancient roman art

1- Essentials on the etruscan art;

2- Essentials on the roman art through the monarchy,the republic and the empire periods;

3- Essentials of art of romanization. Main aspects of romanization in Portugal;

4- Main aspects of some techniques: pottery, mosaic and "fresco".

Project Coordinator:

Kinds of participation:

a. Searching for documents, specialists papers, interviews with teachers and other specialists, imaginative interviews with artists of the past;

b. Collecting of some images in the WWW pages or elsewhere, links to WWW pages with data about the ancient roman art;

c. Making photos of monuments existing in your area;

d. ...and everything your imagination could suggest.

d. To our class: June 15, 1996 - Reply to all participating schools with a copy of a Project Report and a special gift of "Aspects of roman presence in Portugal" that our students are preparing.
